Celebrity chef has big Appetite for Jackson....
Jackson's food and giving spirit will be featured on Appetite for Life: Southern Hospitality with chef Andrew Zimmern.
The Travel Channel's host of Bizarre Foods is on a Southern road trip, eating local cuisine along the way. On Saturday, Zimmern visited Appetite for Jackson at the Art Garden at the Mississippi Museum of Art, where hundreds turned out in a celebration of food and music.
"This is the purpose of the Art Garden, to have events like this," said museum spokesman Julian Rankin. "We have some of the best food and music in the region and Andrew knows Jackson is the place."
The Appetite for Life road trip is a new show by MSN. Already, more than $10,000 has been raised for Feeding America, said Russ Axelrod, director of brand strategies with Microsoft.
"Andrew just loves this stuff," Axelrod said. "He really wanted to focus on this region because it's been through so much."
All proceeds benefit Craig Noone's Miracle League "Rock it out" scholarship. Noone, a chef and owner of the restaurant Parlor Market, died in a car crash last year. The $5,000 scholarship is for Mississippi students interested in enrolling in an accredited culinary arts program.
The brisk yet sunny weather made for a welcome atmosphere for Zimmern and his crew. Scores of fans followed close by with cameras and cell phones taping the action.
On stage, Zimmern sang and danced with blues singer Jewel Bass and her band These Days on camera.
